Maersk - Driving Economic Growth

»» Whilst Nigeria is the leading economy of West Africa, its lack of transport infrastructure poses a major obstacle to optimum business development. “IT’S AFRICA’S TIME” visits the port of Apapa in Lagos to meet with Danish-based Maersk Group and to review how infrastructural developments in the port have enabled Maersk to introduce the efficiently-designed WAFMAX vessels. The feature describes the onboard cranes designed to load and discharge in any West African terminal, the ability to berth without relying on local tugs, and the decrease in SO2 emissions through reduced turnaround times. The WAFMAX vessels are therefore significantly more efficient and self-reliant than any other large-volume carrier ships.
